BAYTREAT
Retreat and Conference Center
Point Clear, Alabama
Baytreat is a retreat and recreational facility located on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. It is owned by the Government Street Presbyterian Church (GSPC) and is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Mobile and 4 miles south of Fairhope on Scenic Highway 98 in Baldwin County. Situated on sprawling acres of waterfront land, the lodge rests among live oaks, in the neighborhood of the beautiful Grand Hotel. Originally, the lodge was the Battles Beach Hotel, located in an area known as Battles Wharf. After World War II, the lodge was operated as a medical clinic. Later, it was acquired by a family who bequeathed it to the Government Street Presbyterian Church.
The lodge, newly renovated in 2007, has ten bedrooms that each sleep four, ten bathrooms with showers (one is handicap accessible), a handicap accessible half-bath, laundry facilities, a spacious living room that opens up onto the porch, and a large dining area surrounded by windows. The kitchen is equipped with an eight-burner gas stove, a refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher, new storage space, three large stainless steel sinks and a work table. From the large waterfront porch, one can listen to the lapping of waves and watch the numerous boats that ply Mobile Bay. Outdoor recreation includes swimming, fishing, water sports, basketball, and volleyball. In addition, Baytreat has a new wharf with a covered seating area, as well as an outdoor labyrinth and worship space.
